How to Fix MYOB AccountRight Error
AccountRight will not start, crashes on opening a company file, runs painfully slowly, or reports that a library or component is missing.
At QuickFix Bookkeeping, the thing to check first: whether your file is online or on your own computer. AccountRight runs both ways, and the two behave completely differently when something breaks. An online file problem is usually connectivity or sign-in. A local file problem is usually the installation or the server service.
What Causes This
Wrong file location assumed
Online files and local files fail for entirely different reasons. Diagnosing the wrong one wastes hours.
Installation damaged
A failed update leaves the install broken, so AccountRight will not start at all.
Missing .NET components
AccountRight depends on Microsoft .NET. If it is damaged, AccountRight cannot launch.
Server service stopped
For local files, the AccountRight Server Edition service must be running or nothing connects.
How to Fix It
METHOD 1Establish Which File Type You HaveStart here
1On the sign-in screen, check whether your file is listed under Online or under On this computer.
2For an online file, the problem is almost always sign-in or connectivity. Confirm you can reach the MYOB website in a browser, and that your subscription is active and not expired.
3For a local file, the problem is usually the installation or the server service. Continue with the methods below.
METHOD 2Restart the AccountRight Server ServiceLocal file will not connect
1Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2Find the MYOB AccountRight Server Edition service. Right-click and select Restart. If it is stopped, select Start.
3Open the service properties, go to the Recovery tab, and set First and Second failure to Restart the Service. A Windows update that stops the service and never restarts it is a common cause of a Monday morning outage.
METHOD 3Repair the InstallationWill not start at all
1Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, find MYOB AccountRight, and choose Repair. Restart the machine afterward.
2If Repair does not resolve it, check that the Microsoft .NET Framework is installed and undamaged. AccountRight will not launch without it, and the error message rarely says so.
3Install any pending Windows updates, restart, and try again before considering a full reinstall.
METHOD 4Fix Slow PerformanceRuns, but painfully
1Slowness on a local file is usually the network path or the file size. Confirm the file is on a wired connection rather than wifi where possible.
2Run a file optimisation from within AccountRight to compact the company file. Very large files accumulate dead space and slow every operation. Exclude the MYOB folders from real-time antivirus scanning, which is a frequent and easily missed cause.
Online and Local Are Not the Same Product
Support articles and forum answers routinely conflate the two. A fix written for a local file will not help an online one, and vice versa. Establish which you have before following any set of steps, including these, and you will save yourself a great deal of wasted effort.
