How to Fix MYOB Sync Error
Data is not syncing between MYOB and your online file, a connected app has stopped updating, or changes made on one device never appear on another.
At QuickFix Bookkeeping, the first question is which direction the sync runs. MYOB syncs between your desktop file and the cloud, and separately between MYOB and connected apps. These fail for different reasons and are fixed in different places. Establish which one has stopped before troubleshooting anything.
What Causes This
Authorisation lapsed
A connected app or the online file lost its authorisation and stopped syncing silently.
Local file not online
An AccountRight file stored on your computer does not sync until it is put online.
Conflicting edits
The same record changed in two places produces a conflict that halts the sync.
Connection interrupted
A dropped connection mid-sync leaves the process incomplete and stalled.
How to Fix It
METHOD 1Establish What Is Not SyncingStart here
1Check whether your company file is stored online or on this computer. A local file does not sync at all, by design. If you expect cloud access, the file must be moved online first.
2If the file is online but a connected app is not updating, the fault is in the app connection rather than in MYOB. Check the app's own connection status first.
3If two devices show different data on the same online file, that is a genuine sync failure. Continue below.
METHOD 2Reauthorise the ConnectionSync stopped silently
1Open the connected app and check its MYOB connection status. Expired authorisations usually fail without any notification at all.
2Disconnect and reconnect the MYOB account inside the app, then run a manual sync to confirm data flows.
3For the online file itself, sign out of MYOB completely and sign back in. This refreshes the session and clears most stalled syncs.
METHOD 3Resolve Conflicting ChangesSync halted with a conflict
1If the same record was edited in two places before syncing, MYOB cannot decide which version wins and stops.
2Open the conflict, choose the correct version deliberately, and let the sync continue. Do not guess. Check both versions against a source document first.
3To prevent it recurring, agree who edits what. Two people editing the same records on different devices will produce conflicts indefinitely.
METHOD 4Rule Out the ConnectionSync stalls partway
1A dropped connection mid-sync leaves the process incomplete. Confirm a stable connection, ideally wired rather than wifi, then trigger a fresh sync.
2Confirm no firewall or proxy is blocking MYOB. In a corporate network, MYOB traffic is sometimes blocked without anyone realising it.
Silent Failure Is the Real Risk
A sync that fails loudly gets fixed the same day. A sync that stops quietly can go unnoticed for weeks, and by then you are reconciling two divergent versions of your accounts. Check that your last sync timestamp is recent, every week. It takes ten seconds and it is the only reliable early warning.
