How to Fix Wave Integration Error
A connected app stops syncing, payments from a payment processor do not appear, or data flows into Wave twice.
At QuickFix Bookkeeping, the honest starting point: Wave has a deliberately small integration surface. Unlike QuickBooks or Xero, it has no large app marketplace. Most Wave integrations run through a third-party connector such as Zapier, which means when something breaks, the fault is usually in the connector, not in Wave.
What Causes This
Connector authorisation expired
The Zapier or third-party connection lost its authorisation and stopped silently.
Duplicate sync
Both a bank feed and an integration are importing the same payments, so everything lands twice.
Field mapping wrong
The connector is writing data to the wrong field or the wrong account.
Feature not supported
The integration you want simply does not exist. Wave supports far fewer apps than its competitors.
How to Fix It
METHOD 1Reauthorise the ConnectionSync stopped silently
1Open the third-party connector, most commonly Zapier, and check the Wave connection status. Expired authorisations usually fail quietly with no notification.
2Disconnect and reconnect the Wave account inside the connector, then run a manual test to confirm data flows.
3Check the connector's task history for failed runs. It will usually tell you exactly which record failed and why, which Wave itself cannot.
METHOD 2Fix Duplicated DataEverything appears twice
1This happens when your bank feed and your integration both import the same transactions. The payment processor pushes the payment in, and then the bank feed downloads the same deposit.
2Decide which single source is authoritative and turn off the other. Do not try to run both and deduplicate by hand, because you will lose that fight every month.
3Clear the duplicates already in your books before changing the setup, or you will simply be reconciling a mess on top of a fix.
METHOD 3Check the Field MappingData arrives in the wrong place
1In the connector, review the field mapping between the source app and Wave. A payment mapped to the wrong income account distorts your reporting without ever throwing an error.
2Test with a single record before switching the integration back on at volume.
METHOD 4Accept the Limits, or Move PlatformThe integration does not exist
1Wave is genuinely limited here, and no amount of troubleshooting creates an integration that was never built. If your business depends on connected apps, inventory, or a large app ecosystem, Wave may simply be the wrong platform for you now. That is a platform decision, not a bug.
When Free Stops Being Cheap
Wave is excellent for a solo business with simple needs, and free is a real advantage. But if you are building brittle Zapier chains to work around missing integrations, and spending hours a month untangling duplicate data, the free platform is costing you more than a paid one would.
