How to Fix Wave Accounting Bank Connection Error

Wave Accounting bank connection stops working -- transactions stop importing, or Wave displays "Connection error" or "Reconnect required" on the bank account.

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, Wave uses Plaid to connect to banks. Wave bank connection errors are almost always caused by Plaid's token expiring (banks require re-authentication every 90 days), a bank MFA requirement, or the bank making changes that require Plaid to re-establish the connection. The fix is always reconnecting through Wave's interface.

How to Fix Wave Bank Connection Error

METHOD 1Reconnect via Wave's Bank Connection FlowFixes most Wave bank errors
1

Accounting and gt; Transactions and gt; find the bank account with the error and gt; click "Fix connection" or the reconnect prompt. Wave opens the Plaid connection flow and gt; select your bank and gt; enter current online banking credentials and gt; complete MFA and gt; confirm the accounts to connect. Plaid establishes a fresh connection and transactions begin syncing.

2

Note the last import date before reconnecting -- after reconnection, Wave may import transactions from the past 90 days which could create duplicates if those transactions were already imported. Review and delete duplicates after reconnecting.

METHOD 2Complete Required Actions at Bank FirstBank blocking third-party access
1

Before reconnecting in Wave: log into your bank's website and gt; complete any pending alerts, MFA enrollment, T&C acceptance, or security verification and gt; check Security Settings for a "Connected apps" or "Third-party access" section and gt; ensure Plaid or Wave is authorised and gt; then retry the reconnection in Wave.

METHOD 3Upload Bank Statement ManuallyBank not supported by Plaid
1

If your bank is not supported by Plaid: Accounting and gt; Transactions and gt; Add Transaction and gt; Upload Statement and gt; upload a CSV from your bank. Wave accepts CSV files with Date, Description, and Amount columns. Set up a recurring manual upload schedule to keep transactions flowing.
