How to Fix QuickBooks Firewall Blocking Errors

QuickBooks cannot update, connect to bank feeds, process payroll, or access the company file over the network -- firewall or security software is blocking QB's required connections.

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, QB needs access on two levels: outbound internet (for updates, payroll, bank feeds, Intuit services) and local network ports (for multi-user QBDSM communication). Firewalls must allow both or QB functions are broken. The diagnostic is simple: disable the firewall temporarily -- if QB works, the firewall is the cause.

QB Required Ports and URLs -- Quick Reference

Local Network Ports

TCP: 8019, 56728, 55378-55382
UDP: 8019
Process: QBDBMgrN.exe, QBW32.exe

Internet URLs (HTTPS/443)

*.intuit.com
*.quickbooks.com
*.payroll.intuit.com

How to Fix QuickBooks Firewall Blocking

METHOD 1Add QB Exceptions to Windows FirewallPrimary fix
1

Tool Hub auto-fix: Tool Hub and gt; Network Issues and gt; QuickBooks Database Server Manager and gt; Scan Folders. This automatically adds QB's required firewall rules. Also: Tool Hub and gt; Company File Issues and gt; Run QB File Doctor and gt; "Check your file and network" -- File Doctor adds firewall exceptions automatically.

2

Manual Windows Firewall rules: Control Panel and gt; Windows Defender Firewall and gt; Advanced Settings and gt; Inbound Rules and gt; New Rule and gt; Port and gt; TCP and gt; enter 8019, 56728, 55378-55382 and gt; Allow the connection and gt; apply to Domain, Private, Public and gt; name it "QuickBooks". Repeat for Outbound Rules.

METHOD 2Add QB Executables to AV/Firewall ExclusionsThird-party security software blocking QB
1

In your AV or third-party firewall: add these folders and executables to the exclusion list: C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\, C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks\, QBW32.exe, QBDBMgrN.exe, QBUpdate.exe. Also add the company file folder to AV exclusions to prevent real-time scanning from locking the .QBW file.

METHOD 3Test with Firewall Temporarily DisabledConfirm firewall is the cause
1

Temporarily disable Windows Firewall and any third-party security software and gt; test QB (update, bank feed, multi-user connection) and gt; if QB works: the firewall is the cause. Re-enable immediately and add the specific rules from Method 1 and 2 above. Never leave the firewall disabled permanently -- this test only confirms the cause.

QB Still Blocked After Adding Firewall Rules?

Let QuickFix Bookkeeping Configure Your QB Network Rules.

Persistent blocking after adding Windows Firewall rules means a Group Policy or enterprise security appliance is overriding local rules -- we identify the override and configure the correct exception.
