How to Fix Sage 100 Cannot Connect to Server

Sage 100 displays "Cannot connect to the Sage 100 server" or "Unable to establish a connection" when launching the client.

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, Sage 100 server connection failures almost always trace to the Sage 100 Application Server service not running, a firewall blocking the connection port, or the client pointing to the wrong server address. Unlike Sage 50 which uses Pervasive, Sage 100 runs its own application server that must be active for any client to connect.

How to Fix Sage 100 Cannot Connect to Server

METHOD 1Restart the Sage 100 Application Server ServiceMost common fix
1

On the Sage 100 server machine: Windows+R and gt; services.msc and gt; find "Sage 100 Application Server" (or "MAS 90 Application Server" in older versions) and gt; right-click and gt; Restart. Set to Automatic startup. Retry the client connection after the service starts.

2

Also restart the "Sage 100 Application Server Instance" service if it exists -- Sage 100 uses both services and both must be running for client connections to succeed.

METHOD 2Check Firewall + Open Port 10000Firewall blocking client-server communication
1

Sage 100 uses TCP port 10000 by default for client-server communication. On the server firewall: add an inbound rule allowing TCP port 10000 from workstation IP addresses. If using a third-party firewall: add the same rule there. Test by temporarily disabling the firewall and retrying -- if it connects: the firewall was the cause.

METHOD 3Verify Server Address in Client SettingsClient pointing to wrong server
1

On the workstation: start the Sage 100 client and gt; when the server connection dialog appears and gt; confirm the Server Name or IP matches the actual server. If the server's IP changed (DHCP renewal): update the client with the new IP or assign the server a static IP. Admin CMD on workstation: ping [server-name] to confirm the name resolves correctly.
