How to Fix Xero Export Errors

Xero reports fail to export -- the download button does nothing, the exported file is blank or corrupted, or Xero displays "Export failed".

Check browser downloads: confirm the browser is not blocking downloads from xero.com. Chrome: Settings and gt; Privacy and Security and gt; Site Settings and gt; Additional permissions and gt; Automatic downloads and gt; ensure xero.com is allowed. Also check the browser's download folder for a partially downloaded file.

Clear cache and retry: Ctrl+Shift+Delete and gt; clear cached images and files and cookies and gt; refresh Xero and gt; retry the export. A corrupted browser session frequently causes export buttons to fail silently.

If exporting a full year or multi-year report fails: break it into quarters and export each quarter separately. Xero has a timeout limit for large exports -- exporting 3 months at a time avoids the timeout and produces complete data. Combine the quarterly exports in Excel after downloading.

Open Xero in an Incognito or Private window (disables extensions) and gt; retry the export. If it works in Incognito: a browser extension (ad blocker, download manager, or security extension) is intercepting the export. Disable extensions one at a time to identify the culprit. Also try a different browser entirely (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) as a quick test.
