How to Fix QuickBooks License Number Not Working

QuickBooks rejects the license number during installation or registration -- displaying "Invalid license number" or "This product number is not valid for this version".

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, license errors are caused by the license number being entered incorrectly (most common -- the number 0 vs letter O, number 1 vs letter I), the license belonging to a different QB version or year, or the license already being registered to the maximum number of computers allowed.

Type the license number manually, one character at a time. Do not copy-paste -- this can introduce hidden characters or leading/trailing spaces. QB license numbers only contain digits 0-9 and letters A-Z -- watch for: number 0 vs letter O, number 1 vs letter I, number 5 vs letter S, number 8 vs letter B.

Confirm the correct version: the license must match the QB version and year installed. A QB 2022 license does not work in QB 2023. Check the license certificate or confirmation email to confirm the year matches the installed QB version.

Log into account.intuit.com and gt; Products and Services and gt; find QuickBooks Desktop and gt; view the license and product numbers. This is the authoritative source. Also check: Help and gt; Manage My License in an existing QB installation to see the license number currently registered to that machine.

QB Desktop licenses allow a fixed number of simultaneous installations (typically 1-3 depending on the license type). If the maximum is reached: on an existing installation and gt; Help and gt; Manage My License and gt; Deactivate and gt; this releases a seat. Then re-register on the new machine. If you cannot access the old machine: call Intuit at 1-800-446-8848 to release a seat manually.
