How to Fix Network Issues in QuickBooks

QuickBooks workstations cannot reach the company file over the network -- showing H-series errors, 6000-series errors, or simply timing out when trying to open the company file.

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, QB network issues always trace to one of four layers: QBDSM not running or not scanning the correct folder, firewall blocking QB's required ports, the hosting configuration wrong (workstation hosting instead of server), or a network path issue (wrong server IP or mapped drive disconnected). Fixing the right layer immediately resolves the issue.

QB Network Diagnostic -- Four Checks in Order

1. Can you ping the server?

CMD and gt; ping [server-name]. If this fails: basic network connectivity issue, not a QB problem.

2. Is QBDSM running?

Server: services.msc and gt; QuickBooksDB[XX] must be Running. If stopped: Start it.

3. Is hosting correct?

Server: File and gt; Utilities and gt; should show "Stop Hosting" (hosting ON). Workstations: should show "Host Multi-User Access" (hosting OFF). Any workstation showing "Stop Hosting" must have it disabled.

How to Fix QuickBooks Network Issues

METHOD 1Run QuickBooks File DoctorAutomated network diagnosis and fix
1

Tool Hub and gt; Company File Issues and gt; Run QuickBooks File Doctor and gt; select "Check your file and network" and gt; browse to the company file on the server and gt; run. File Doctor automatically opens required firewall ports, scans QBDSM configuration, and fixes the .ND file. Run this on the server for the most complete diagnosis.

METHOD 2Rename .ND + Restart QBDSM + Fix HostingManual fix if File Doctor doesn't resolve
1

On server: rename CompanyName.QBW.ND to .ND.OLD and gt; services.msc and gt; QuickBooksDB[XX] and gt; Restart and gt; open QBDSM and gt; Scan Folders and gt; Start Scan. On every workstation: QB and gt; File and gt; Utilities and gt; if "Stop Hosting Multi-User Access" appears: click it to disable hosting on that workstation. Only the server should host.

METHOD 3Open Firewall Ports for QBFirewall blocking QBDSM communication
1

QB requires inbound TCP port 8019 and dynamic ports 56728 and 55378-55382 on the server. Windows Firewall and gt; Advanced Settings and gt; Inbound Rules and gt; New Rule and gt; Port and gt; TCP and gt; add these port numbers and gt; allow the connection. Also add QBDBMgrN.exe and QuickBooksDB service as allowed applications. Test by temporarily disabling the firewall -- if workstations connect: a firewall rule was the cause.

QB Network Issues Persisting After File Doctor and Firewall Fix?

Let QuickFix Bookkeeping Configure Your QB Network.

Persistent network issues after File Doctor and firewall fixes usually mean a third-party security product is blocking QBDSM at the kernel level -- we identify the product and configure the correct exception.
