How to Fix QuickBooks Error 6007

QuickBooks cannot open your company file and returns Error 6007, a 6000-series error meaning the file is already open in another session or the connection to it has been lost.

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, Error 6007 is almost never file corruption. It is a session and access problem. Another user, a stale background process, or a hosting misconfiguration is holding the file, and QuickBooks refuses to open a second connection to it.

What Causes Error 6007

Session conflict

The file is already open by another user, or by a QuickBooks process that never closed properly.

Hosting misconfigured

Multi-user hosting is switched on across several machines when only the server should host.

Stale lock file

A leftover .ND or .TLG file still points at a session that no longer exists.

Network interruption

The workstation lost its connection to the server mid-session, leaving the file flagged as in use.

How to Fix QuickBooks Error 6007

METHOD 1Close All Sessions and Restart CleanPrimary fix

Have every user close QuickBooks. Confirm nobody is still in the file, including anyone on a remote or terminal session.

Kill leftover processes. On the server and each workstation, open Task Manager and end any QBW32.exe or QBDBMgrN.exe processes still running. A crashed session leaves these holding the file.

Restart the server, then open QuickBooks on the server first. Once it opens cleanly there, bring the workstations back in one at a time.

METHOD 2Fix Hosting: Only the Server HostsMost common root cause

On each workstation, go to File, Utilities. If it says Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, select it. Workstations must never host.

On the server only, go to File, Utilities and confirm it reads Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, which means hosting is correctly on. If it reads Host Multi-User Access, select it to turn hosting on.

METHOD 3Clear the Stale .ND and .TLG FilesSafe, QuickBooks rebuilds them

Browse to your company file folder. Find the files with the same name as your company file but ending in .ND and .TLG.

Rename each by adding .OLD to the end. Do not delete them. Then open QuickBooks and log in. It regenerates fresh configuration files automatically. Your accounting data is untouched.

On the server, open the QuickBooks Tool Hub, go to Network Issues, then QuickBooks Database Server Manager. Add your company file folder and select Start Scan. This rebuilds the network configuration and repairs folder permissions. If Error 6007 persists after this, run Quick Fix my File from the Company File Issues tab.
