How to Fix Xero Login Errors

Xero displays a login error -- "Invalid email or password", "Your account has been locked", or "You don't have access to this organisation".

At QuickFix Bookkeeping, Xero login errors are caused by incorrect password (most common), account locked after too many failed attempts, MFA device lost or changed, or access removed from the organisation. Each has a distinct fix path.

How to Fix Xero Login Errors

METHOD 1Reset Password + Unlock AccountWrong password or locked account

Reset password: login.xero.com and gt; Forgot Password and gt; enter the email address associated with your Xero account and gt; check email and gt; follow the reset link. Use the email address the Xero invitation was originally sent to -- not necessarily your current primary email.

Account locked: after 5 failed attempts Xero locks the account for 30 minutes. Wait 30 minutes and gt; try again with the correct password. Or use Forgot Password immediately to reset rather than waiting.

METHOD 2Recover MFA AccessLost authenticator device or backup codes

At the MFA prompt and gt; click "I can't use my authenticator app" and gt; use a backup code if you have one. If no backup codes: contact Xero Support directly at xero.com/contact-xero and gt; select "Account access issue" and gt; Xero can verify your identity and disable MFA so you can log in and set up a new authenticator.

METHOD 3Request Re-invitation to OrganisationAccess removed from the organisation

If you can log into Xero but see "You don't have access to this organisation": contact the organisation's Xero Administrator and gt; ask them to re-invite you at Settings and gt; Users and gt; Invite a User and gt; enter your email and gt; assign the appropriate role. You will receive a new invitation email to accept.
